5 Questions to Ask Your Fertility Doctor

5 Questions to Ask Your Fertility Doctor

Attending the first appointment at the fertility clinic can be quite daunting. Maybe you have been trying to conceive for a while but never had professional insight into what may be preventing you from getting pregnant. This will be a good opportunity to ask key questions that will help you make a decision and hopefully move forward in your fertility journey.

When should you see a fertility doctor?

  • If you are below 35 years of age and haven’t been able to get pregnant after 12 months of unprotected regular sex
  • If you are 36 to 39 and haven’t been able to get pregnant after 6 months of unprotected regular sex
  • If you are 40 and have haven’t been able to get pregnant

Your medical team will be able to tell you about clinical conditions you  might have, options of treatment that might be available to you, stages of IVF or other treatment, advantages and disadvantages, aspects you might be able to change in your lifestyle to improve your chances and cost.

The poster below summarises 5 questions you might want to keep in mind when attending the appointment. The fertility doctor or nurse may tell you a lot of information, so take notes during the appointment. Towards the end of the appointment you can also ask how can you reach them if you have further questions after leaving the consultation room.

If you don’t know how to choose the right fertility clinic for you, read our blog post here.
